IMNA Beautification Project
The Inner Mission Neighborhood Association has been placing planters in areas that have seen city neglect. It has been rewarding for us to see people smile when they walk by what had previously been blighted sidewalks.

What we did
Reclaim blighted sidewalks
On May 22, 2022, at our IMNA meeting, we brought up the idea of putting planters on our sidewalks as a way to beautify swaths of neglected areas in our neighborhood. It has been a resounding success. We have met many neighbors in the process encouraging community and collaboration
Since May 22 we have placed over 100 planters in the Mission. Albert Pastine has organized the effort to buy barrels, dirt and gravel. Neighbors have fanned out to place barrels in particularly blighted areas to the joy of everyone who passes or lives nearby. Community volunteers place the barrels, dirt and gravel. Other neighbors show up with donated plants.
It takes a community! Some of us donated money, others plants. Many of us lifted heavy bags of soil and gravel. A neighbor let us store as many as 20 barrels and many bags of soil and gravel in her yard. Others came with tools and dollies. Our team effort resulted in adding beauty to our neighborhood.
We worked into the night to finish placing planters at 25th Street between Lilac and Capp! Thank you Giuseppe, Dexter, Keri, Lucy, Marie, and Edward
Thank you to everyone in our community who donated money, time and plants to this project. We hope to make your experience of our community a joyful one.
